The two beautiful cast iron frames for this garden bench were bought on a flea market for 40 Euros.
After removing many layers of old paint and rust I decided to not re-paint the frames but to add just a coating of clear rust-protective lacquer. The idea was to keep some of the patina and obtain a more rustic look.
Then I sawed an planed the wooden slats from a few cedar boards and mounted them onto the frames using inox screws. I have not treated the slats with oil or varnish. Cedar is extremely durable and the wood will slowly change from a reddish brown to a silverish grey color.
